The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has granted E.ON / RWE a license to develop and operate 21 wind turbines at Oddeheia and Bjelkeberg in Birkenes municipality (21.12.18.). The license includes a wind turbine of up to 85 megawatts
The project can produce an annual output corresponding to the annual consumption of about 14,500 households. Investment decision will be made in June 2020. The turbines will be operational by 31.12.2021.
Birkenes municipality and E.ON/RWE have entered into a collaboration agreement with a common goal to get the most local economig growth possible related to this development project. As a result of this, the residents, the local government, and Birkenes Næringsforum esatablished Vindmuligheter. The goal is to have at least 300 million NOK, of the estimated investment of 800 NOK million, invested into local and regional industry players. In addition, significant local value creation related to operations during the 25-year licensing period is expected. 90% of all operational tasks must be offered by local suppliers. In other developments, operations are estimated at a value of 10-15% of annual turnover in wind turbines.
